tunes i <3: SPINNERETTE

Spinnerette centerpiece Brody Dalle has come a long way since her days as the Distiller's singer/guitarist, a "frontwoman with balls - and chops - to stare down any man on the strip who thought leather pants and rock music was just for the boys".  After a long and very confusing path of band after band, Dalle finally settled into the American alternative rock band, SPINNERETTE. The band consists of Brody Dalle, Tony Bevilacqua (former Distillers band mate), Jack Irons (of Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Alain Johannes (of Queens of the Stone Age). Although the band as a different touring line-up then their recordings, Dalle brings this crazy energy onto the stage that basically makes up for it. Very reminiscent to one of my favorite bands, The Kills, Spinnerette has an alternative rock sound with a punk edge (ie amazingness).

Spinnerette released their self-titled album a few weeks ago in June. I'm still loving their song "Ghetto Love" (released on an EP last December), but my new obsessions are "Geeking" (Joan Jett anyone...), "Sex Bomb" and "Rebellious Palpitations".

The Kills @ 9:30 Club & After Party @ Skye Lounge (4.30.09)

The Kills attracted a very strange crowd at DC's 9:30 Club this past Thursday night: ranging from screaming 13 year old girls to "gothed out" 40 year old men. The Kills consist of, American Alison "VV" Mosshart, and Brit Jamie "Hotel" Hince.  After being featured on the cover of Nylon magazine in March 2008, The Kills embarked on a US tour for their third album Midnight Boom. Their set started off well with their first single from the album Midnight Boom, "U.R.A Fever". The band also played some of my favorites from the new album, including "Tape Song", "Sour Cherry" and "Cheap and Cheerful" (which was featured on 90210 this month).

Emily and I of course matched in our Mary Meyer dresses.

After the concert, we headed over to Skye Lounge. The party was fabulous possibly because of the open bar.  The venue was great; if you go, talk to the bartender "BJ", his special shots seemed to be very popular.
